A Murderer Always Returns to the Scene of the Crime
Especially when the crime happened in your heart.
Why is it that those who hurt us need to gloat over the corpses of what our hearts used to be? At first, they go away, but as days, weeks, months, or even years go by, they need to come back and take a peek at the mess they left behind.
It is as if they expected us to still be broken. If we happen to be doing fine, they mutter to themselves, “No problem, it won’t last…”
It feeds their ego to think that the destruction they left behind is unfixable. Look at them; I was so monumental in their lives that they can’t make it without me.
The truth is that they almost achieved their goal. Their behavior wreaked havoc on our souls. However, if we take a step back and analyze the situation, we come to realize that most of the harm happened before their crime.
