I’m as Destructive as Cyclops, and I Desperately Need My Glasses
Writing about this is not cool.
There are very few things that can keep my mind quiet.
Sex can do it. So does physical activity, like exercise or doing household chores. Is that why I love doing the dishes? I can also achieve this zen state by going to a movie theater, where the lights will be out, and the sound will be loud, so my brain won’t have a choice but to focus on the film in front of it.
Other than that, I carry a permanent peanut gallery in my head, except all the faces belong to me, and all the voices keep shouting contradictory statements I can’t shake away.
There’s just too much of everything all the time. And, if I’m not careful, I begin my descent down the most slippery of slopes.
Soon I’m not working out; then I’m eating junk food all the time; later on, I’m playing games on my phone at 2 am, and, of course, I’m not sleeping enough because that could make me feel at least a bit well.
All of that might seem like cosmetic concerns. “So you’ll gain a few pounds, so what? What harm can a few days of fun cause?”
But weight gain is the least of my concerns. The problem, as always, lies in my mind.
I’m on a self-destructive path now. I’m pacing around my apartment now. I’m thinking of running down the stairs now. And now I’m thinking of doing anything to make the noise stop.
It doesn’t take much time for me to reach that stage. And, to keep myself from getting there, I need to put on my Cyclops’ glasses.
A Boring X-Men
Cyclops gets a bad rep. According to the X-Men movies, he’s a nice guy. A good guy. Therefore, he’s not supposed to be as sexy as Wolverine. However, right now, I’m not very concerned with rating the level of hotness of modern-day superheroes.
But there’s a little something about Cyclops, aka Scott Summers, lately on my mind.
You see, he wears those glasses, but he didn’t choose them just because he wanted to look cool. In reality, those glasses keep him from setting the world on fire.
