I have been without a car for almost a year now, after my Yellow Sauna Box suffered an untimely death, but this hasn’t stopped me from going places. After all, I still have to go to work and all that jazz.
The main reason why I haven’t made the long-term commitment of buying a new vehicle is that I know in February of next year I will quit my job and, since 90% of the times I got behind the wheel, it was to go to my place of employment, it doesn’t make sense to me to acquire a ton of debt that will sit on the garage most of the time.
The point is, I have come to the realization I don’t need a new car, and I refuse to get one just because it is one of the things adults are supposed to do.
This, of course, left me with one problem: How do I get to work in the meantime?
First, I tried public transportation, but it has proven to be most unreliable. So, I decided I would do better using the ride-sharing apps that have become the talk of the town.
Is it cheap? No, it most certainly isn’t, but once the math was done, it turns out it is more affordable than making monthly payments for a car or risking buying a super shitty cheap one that would require repairs every five minutes.
I just need to make it for a few more months!
However, I didn’t expect this ride-sharing deal to provide an unexpected benefit: I get to dissociate at will, and I have come to love it.
